WHAT IS THE SARW?
The SARW provides trauma-informed and recovery-oriented assistance to adult victims of sexual violence in the military community. As a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) or SAPR Victim Advocate (VA) in the SARW, you will directly support adult victims in making reports and connect them with resources. In addition, you will work closely with military leadership and other Department support service resources to help soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen, and guardians navigate the sexual assault response system within their respective organization.
- SARW General Competencies include crisis response, victim advocacy, program comprehension, training and advertisement, and non-clinical support. More details are available here.
- SARW Supervisory Competencies include people management, program administration, executive communication, resource management, and data and records management. More details are available here.
The SARW Model removes SARCs and SAPR VAs from the chain of command, eliminates the provision of victim assistance as a collateral duty, and ensures full-time personnel provide victim assistance. SARW positions are exempt from the Department’s hiring freeze, in accordance with the September 2025 memorandum, “Reinforcement of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Priorities.”
The Department is committed to a “No Wrong Door” approach, meaning that everyone seeking help will be connected with available assistance that best fits their needs. The SARW will meet victims with understanding and immediate assistance, regardless of where they initially seek help and connect military members to the appropriate resources as quickly as possible. To learn more, view the No Wrong Door Fact Sheet.
WHY JOIN THE SARW?
Because you can make a difference and strengthen military communities around the world! As a part of the SARW, you will offer guidance, support, and information on the availability of sexual assault prevention and response services to individuals who report a sexual assault. |
