Professionals are available everywhere the military operates to help support and connect victims of sexual assault with information and resources. ​

​Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC)
SARCs are installation resources who provide confidential support and coordinate care for victims of sexual assault throughout the investigation and recovery process. ​

​Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocate (VA)​
SAPR VAs are advocates who provide one-on-one, confidential support, education, and resources to a victim of sexual assault under the supervision of a SARC. ​

​Military Chaplain
Priests, ministers, and other religious clergy can provide confidential spiritual advice and counseling to a victim of sexual assault. While chaplains cannot take reports of sexual assault, they can connect a victim of sexual assault with a SARC or SAPR VA if requested. ​

​Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiner (SAMFE)​
SAMFEs are specially-trained medical professionals who can conduct a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) and address medical concerns associated with sexual assault. ​

​Special Victims’ Counsel (SVC)/ Victims’ Legal Counsel (VLC)/ Victims’ Counsel (VC)
SVC/VLC/VCs are military attorneys who provide victims of sexual assault with confidential legal advice, representation, and assistance with exercising their rights throughout the investigative and justice process. Communication with these attorneys is protected and cannot be shared with anyone. Victims may consult with an SVC/VLC/VC prior to making a report. SVC/VLC/VCs are personal lawyers, not the prosecutor or defense attorney. ​

​Special Victim Investigation and Prosecution (SVIP) Capability
SVIPs are criminal investigators, prosecutors, and other legal support personnel who work together and are specially-trained to assist victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
